Dad Tries To Save Son From Falling Then This Happens...
I CAN'T Be A "Full-Time Mom"—For Several Reasons!
I mentioned recently that I'm worried Emmett will like his nanny more than he likes me, so some of you suggested I try being a "full-time mom"*. But I can't!
First of all, while Rory's salary is great, he doesn't make enough to support the three of us if we're going to continue living in Brooklyn. (And saving for our future.) Of course we could move to the 'burbs, but Rory doesn't get home 'til 8 p.m. as it is; we'dneversee him if he had arealcommute. Besides, we're just not ready for Connecticut yet.
And even if Rory were making million a day, I still don't think I'd want to be a stay-at-home mom.
I really enjoy my career. I'm proud of what I've accomplished and excited for what I'm going to accomplish. And I like that my job allows me to interact regularly with grown-ups who have no opinion on Pampers vs. Huggies and are oblivious to the scandalousSponge Bobnews. (For the record, Team Pampers, and theres's a reason Emmett doesn't watch TV!)
Plus—and this is harder to admit—I'm just not that good at doing 12 hours straight of baby stuff. I love my baby with every ounce of love I have, but after eight consecutive readings of , Emmett's current favorite, I'd rather smack myself in the face with the book than read it for the ninth time. I'm happy to take him to the park, the zoo, the aquarium, the children's museum—heck, I've taken him on field trips to Target just to get us out of the house. But doing that stuff all day, every day just doesn't appeal to me. And I think that's okay. I didn't go into this "mom" thing thinking I'd be the type of woman who'd want to be a stay-at-home mom. (Not that there's anything wrong with stay-at-home moms! It's just not the job for me. Please don't freak out on me—unless you're also going to freak out on Rory for not wanting to be a stay-at-home dad.)
Are you a stay-at-home mom? Do you plan to be one day? Or will you always be in the workforce?
* I hate the term "full-time mom." As once said, "EVERY mom is a full-time mom.
