What do black points mean in a cat?

Black dots on the chin or lips are a common occurrence for feline pets, which is probably why owners rarely pay attention to them. Many even know that these black spots are nothing but acne - the equivalent of human acne and inflammations on the skin of the face.

Often they do not show themselves, and throughout the life of the animal feels quite comfortable, so many owners do not see a need to treat them.

Unfortunately, not always everything is so rosy: often black dots and acne begin to progress, adding a pet, in addition to external manifestations, also physical inconveniences.

Acne starts to multiply and itch, as a result, the kotejka combs them up to the formation of wounds and abrasions, and this can not be ignored. In addition, black dots on the chin can be one of the signs of serious diseases, or improper care of a four-legged friend. What to do and how to treat acne in cats?

First, you need to carefully inspect the pet: make sure that this is exactly acne, and not, for example, the result of the vital activity of some parasites, for example fleas. They look exactly the same, but the treatment is, of course, completely different.

To do this, dissolve the fur of the cat: traces of fleas are usually visible across the entire surface of the fur coat, not only on the chin, but the acne is localized there, moreover, if you look closely, you can see not yet exfoliated eels that firmly hold inside the pores.

Acne can manifest not only on the chin, but also in the corners of the lips, rarely on the nose, and in especially neglected cases - on the elbows, on the inside of the thighs and even between the fingers.

Naturally, if these are not separate several points, then the first thing you need to contact a specialist.

Why do pimples appear in cats?

As in humans, black dots in cats are clogged skin pores, in which the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum. They appear precisely on the chin and near the lips because it is there that the hairs are least and they are very short, and, therefore, it is here that the sebaceous glands are best developed.

One of the reasons is the lack of proper level of hygiene. The fact is that it is the chin that is most often contaminated during meals, and the cat cannot wash it thoroughly, which leads to inflammation.

True, pollution is not the only cause of acne in cats. Sometimes banal heredity is the culprit - then the mustache is tormented by such a problem since childhood, it’s impossible to get rid of it;

In addition, acne on the chin can be alarming symptoms of diseases of the intestinal tract, liver and stomach, as well as immune or vegetative disorders.

What to do?

First of all, you need to monitor the purity of the bowl, it is important to exclude it from possible sources of the problem. It is better if the bowl is metallic, glassy and wide enough. As soon as you notice the first symptoms of acne, you need to fight them immediately, promptly starting treatment.

In principle, you can cope at home, although it is a slow process that can take several weeks or even a month.To get rid of black spots, the affected surface must be cleaned with antiseptics, for example, chlorhexidine.

For a mild cleansing, you can try to use anti-dandruff shampoos (of course, only on problem areas). Sometimes acne is additionally cauterized with iodine, however, the main thing is not to overdo it.

Extruding clogged pores is not recommended on their own, as the animal is unlikely to tolerate such a procedure, which increases the risks of infecting and exacerbating the situation. As a rule, such treatment is quite enough. With more serious lesions, the animal is still better to show the veterinarian, it is possible that he will prescribe a course of special drugs, naturally, after passing a series of tests.
